Competition winners

We challenged Girlguiding UK units to devise a new design for our Listening Bus and we're delighted to announce that the winners are the 70th St Williams Rainbows from Sheffield.

Their winning design will feature on the Listening Bus from 2010.

"I told the Rainbows that they had won the competition and they were all excited!" said Unit Leader Marianne Beatson. "They're very much looking forward to the Listening Bus coming to Sheffield!"

All about our Bus

NDCS's Listening Bus travels around the UK, helping deaf children to test out the latest equipment and enabling hearing children to learn more about deafness.

The NDCS Listening Bus first set off in June 1996. It has been hugely popular and since then has traveled approximately 160,000 miles and hosted over 56,000 visitors.

The current NDCS Listening Bus is travelling around the country now! Visit the NDCS website to see when the bus is going to be near you and to book a free visit so you can see how fantastic it is for yourself!

Please note: We will do our best to visit you, but we cannot guarantee that the bus will be able to visit all requested venues.

Technology on board

Technology transforms the lives of deaf children. Visitors to the Listening Bus can try out the latest technology to aid communication and awareness of important sounds within the home including vibrating alarm clocks, flashing doorbells and video and text phones.

The right technology and equipment can make a huge difference in improving a deaf child’s communication, confidence and independence, as well as helping them to learn at school.

Experienced NDCS staff on the Bus can offer demonstrations and answer questions on all aspects of deafness from children, parents and teachers.

I am the Guider with 1st Dromore Rainbow Guide Unit in N.Ireland and we have selected the Hands Up project for our challenge Changing the World. The girls have been made aware through games etc for life with hearing difficuties and next week we are learning sign language. I would be interested to know when and where abouts in N.Ireland the bus will be coming in June and would it be possible for the Rainbows to visit it as we will be raising money for it later in the year. Thank you. Anne Cochrane Guder 1st Dromore Rainbow Guide Unit
