How to take part

The Hands Up project asks members of Girlguiding UK to:

  1. Learn to sign all of part of a great pop song
  2. Learn to sign their appropriate promise
  3. Make their unit deaf friendly
  4. Set a target and raise funds for the NDCS Listening Bus

To help you achieve these goals, NDCS has packed the Hands up project full of fun activities to take part in. You can enter a competition to design a Listening Bus, host a crazy ‘Wear it Loud’ fashion show, learn the art of lip speaking, take part in girly manicure nights and glamorous glove-making sessions and even have a go at cake decorating, plus much more!

To obtain project materials, including a CD with the signed song and promise, please use this online request form.

When you have completed your project don’t forget to record any action your unit takes to claim your unique Changing the World badge.

All funds raised through the Hands up project will go towards the NDCS Listening Bus and the latest technology needed to kit it out. The Listening Bus will travel throughout the UK, helping deaf children access the technology that they need to improve their communication and develop confidence and independence. It will also help educate hearing children about deaf awareness.

The overall national fundraising target is £100,000 and prizes are up for grabs for the girls who raise funds in the most innovative and creative way.

Put your hands up today and change the world for deaf children.
