Local groups are run by parents and carers of deaf children, working together with local health and education professionals. They give emotional and social support to families with deaf children, and give deaf children the chance to meet outside of school.
Some groups have dozens of members, paid staff and a permanent office. Other groups are very informal and meet occasionally for tea, coffee and a chat. Most local groups are somewhere in between; they meet regularly throughout the year and organise occasional activities for deaf children and their families.
If you’d like to get in touch with a local group, perhaps to invite its members to a fundraising event or to ask some deaf children to meet your girls, visit the NDCS website or contact NDCS's Freephone Helpline for details of groups in your area.
